The Razzies are back with their annual list of cinematic disasters. While the Oscars will honour the best films this weekend, the Razzies made sure to put the spotlight on the biggest disasters of the year. The Spider Man spin off, Madame Web, claimed the top spot with the most awards. Pamela Anderson, who was once named Worst New Star in 1996 for her role in Barb Wire, redeemed herself with her performance in The Last Showgirl. Joker: Folie a Deux, Unfrosted and Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious project Megalopolis walked away with two honours each. In a rare moment, Coppola proudly posted about his win on Instagram.

Madame Web swung straight into the Worst Picture web, dragging Dakota Johnson with it in the Worst Actress category, along with Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker and SJ Clarkson for the Worst Screenplay. Meanwhile, Jerry Seinfeld took home the Worst Actor award for Unfrosted. Legendary director Francis Ford Coppola might wish Megalopolis stayed a myth after winning Worst Director. Jon Voight managed to land Worst Supporting Actor for not one, not two, but four different movies, including Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow Land and Strangers.

Amy Schumer’s performance in Unfrosted was so bad, it earned her Worst Supporting Actress. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga shared the Worst Screen Combo title for Joker: Folie a Deux, while the DC Elseworlds movie itself won Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel award. On the bright side, Pamela Anderson redeemed herself with The Last Showgirl.

Soon after the announcement, Francis Ford Coppola responded to his Razzie wins with sarcasm and wrote, “I am thrilled to accept the Razzie award in so many important categories for Megalopolis and for the distinctive honour of being nominated as the worst director, worst screenplay and worst picture at a time when so few have the courage to go against the prevailing trends of contemporary moviemaking. In this wreck of a world today, where ART is given scores as if it were professional wrestling, I chose to NOT follow the gutless rules laid down by an industry so terrified of risk that despite the enormous pool of young talent at its disposal, may not create pictures that will be relevant and alive 50 years from now.”

“What an honour to stand alongside a great and courageous filmmaker like Jacques Tati who impoverished himself completely to make one of cinema’s most beloved failures, PLAYTIME. My sincere thanks to all my brilliant colleagues who joined me to make our work of art, MEGALOPOLIS, and let us remind ourselves that box office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics has no true place in our future,” the filmmaker added.

The Razzies winners were decided through votes from 1,202 members, including movie fans, film critics and journalists. These voters came from 49 states in the US and several other countries.
