The Sulthan Bathery police in Kerala have arrested a Kozhikode native at the Bengaluru airport for online trading fraud. The accused, C.K. Nijas, (25), a native of Perumanna, was arrested on Saturday as he was returning home from Abu Dhabi, where he had fled to.
Mr. Nijas had allegedly extracted ₹75 lakh, through bank transfer as well as in cash, from a few people at Cheeral in Wayanad for online trading after promising them 5% to 10% profit over the period between April and December in 2022. They approached the police in November 2024 as they got neither the deposit nor the profit in return.
Mr. Nijas, along with an accomplice, had been absconding since the case was registered. The police had issued a look-out notice against the duo. However, the accomplice is still absconding.
Mr. Nijas was produced in court and has been remanded in custody.
