The screening committee headed by M. Ramachandra Gowda has shortlisted and recommended the names of three people, including Dr. Bhagavan B.C., Principal of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

Dr. Ravikumar B.C., Principal of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Nalini G.K., Professor & Head of the Department of Pharmacology of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute are the other two people shortlisted.

According to the sources, the decision was taken in the screening committee meeting on February 18 and a report was submitted to the State government.

Dr. Ravikumar is facing corruption allegations and is under investigation.

If the Governor finalises Dr. Bhagavan’s name, it will be the first time that the principal of a private medical college will be appointed as the V-C of RGUHS, a move that has drawn criticism from prominent personalities in the field of medical education who have argued that it goes against the tradition of appointing only those from government institutions.
