Khalil Fong was born in Hawaii in 1983. His love for music came from his father, who introduced a young Khalil to a wide range of genres, such as jazz, funk and soul, reported South China Morning Post. After spending his time in Guangdong and Shanghai, Khalil moved to Hong Kong in the late 1960s. The talented musician released his debut solo album Soulboy in 2005. The song Spring Breeze from the record took Khalil to stardom. He gained recognition for his wonderful renditions in soul music and R&B.
Khalil Fong was compared to renowned musical geniuses David Tao and Jay Chou. He was dubbed to be one of the “four little powers of Hong Kong singer-songwriters” alongside artists Louis Cheung Kai-chung, Hins Cheung King-hin and Ivana Wong Yuen-chi.
Since most of his songs were in English and Mandarin, Kalil Fong became a favourite among Asian listeners as well. He established Fu Music in 2016, before stepping away from the public eye. Khalil, however, continued to release several singles from 2018 to 2022.
Khalil Fong made his comeback last year with The Dreamer. According to reports, he recorded the album while suffering from an ailment.
