The Chevayur police in Kozhikode, Kerala, recently arrested one of the accused in an attempt-to-murder case of 2022 from Kathmandu in Nepal. The arrested, Muhammed Ashfaq (27), a native of Kondotty in Malappuram district, was one of the accused in the attempted murder of Luqmanul Hakeem, a native of Balussery.
He was arrested by a team led by Inspector Sajeev of the Chevayur police station from Kathmandu on February 12 based on a tip-off. He has been brought back to India.
The case is connected to the divorce proceedings between Mr. Hakeem and his wife in 2022. His father-in-law, Kunji Muhammed Kutty, who was working abroad at the time, had allegedly hired one Jashim Shah of Beypore to kill Mr. Hakeem. Mr. Shah entrusted four people, including Mr. Ashfaq, with carrying out the task.
They allegedly abducted Mr. Hakeem and tried to bludgeon him to death on the premises of a secluded wood mill. However, the attempt was foiled by the local people, following which the assailants fled the scene.
Mr. Ashfaq fled the country during the course of the investigation.
