Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of betraying social activist Anna Hazare and indulging in divisive politics. During a public rally in Karawal Nagar on Thursday, Sarma claimed that Kejriwal’s time in Tihar Jail had led to a shift in his mindset, accusing him of developing a “criminal mindset.”
Sarma further alleged that Kejriwal was prioritizing appeasement politics, citing his claims of offering money to Maulanas, while contrasting it with the BJP’s focus on the upliftment of all Indians, including minorities. He also criticized Kejriwal for his apparent bias against Hindus, while not taking issue with Rohingya refugees.
The Assam CM also mocked Kejriwal’s unfulfilled promise to clean the Yamuna River, urging the Delhi Chief Minister to take a dip in its polluted waters. Sarma contrasted this with the BJP-led governments’ successful efforts to clean major rivers like the Ganga and Brahmaputra in Uttar Pradesh and Assam.
Sarma also took issue with Kejriwal’s lifestyle, accusing him of hypocrisy for living in a lavish residence while urging Delhi residents to rely on Mohalla Clinics. He questioned the logic of establishing Mohalla Clinics in a city like Delhi, suggesting that investment in multi-specialty hospitals would be a more appropriate alternative.
The comments come as the BJP intensifies its election campaigns, with Sarma actively supporting BJP candidates in the ongoing election season.
