Karnataka stretch of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway unofficially open

The 68-km stretch of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway that passes through Karnataka is being used by around 1,600 motorists on an average everyday, for the last two weeks.

In total, 71 km of the 260-km expressway falls under Karnataka. The 68-km stretch from Hoskote to KGF is currently toll-free as the entire four-lane highway is not still fully operational.

‘No toll till work is complete’

“The stretch had been open for a long time, but only recently, have people started taking it. This will help us too as we also want to assess the volume of vehicles and traffic on the expressway. The toll will not be imposed until the work is completed,” said a National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) official.

Although the remaining work on the Karnataka side of the expressway is expected to be completed in a few months, an official inauguration will not take place until the highway becomes operational until Chennai, the official noted.

In November 2024, NHAI officials had said that the work on the Tamil Nadu side of the expressway will be completed by August 2025.
