The highly awaited Korean remake of You Are the Apple of My Eye premiered in theatres today, February 21. Adapted from the 2012 Taiwanese coming-of-age romance—originally based on Giddens Ko’s semi-autobiographical novel—the film is directed by Cho Young-myoung. Set in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, the story unfolds against the backdrop of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

You Are the Apple of My Eye’s cast is led by B1A4’s Jung Jin-young as Jin-woo and TWICE’s Dahyun as Seon-ah. The other members include Sohn Jeong Hyuck, Kim Yo Han, Lee Min Goo, Lee Seung Jun and Kim Min Ju. The recently released behind-the-scenes photos show the cast having a fun time on set, laughing, joking around and enjoying each other’s company.

Take a look:

Jinyoung opened up about the strong bond the cast formed while filming. “Since we’re all around the same age, we quickly became close and relied on each other while acting. During breaks, we played games and went out for delicious food together, just like real friends,” he said as quoted by Soompi.

Dahyun also talked about how much she enjoyed filming. “Because our personalities were so similar to our characters, we never stopped laughing. The atmosphere on set was so great that I genuinely looked forward to filming every day,” she said.

You Are the Apple of My Eye follows Jin-woo, an 18-year-old high school student who spends his days trying to gather the courage to confess his feelings to his first love, Seon-ah. As seen in the trailer, Seon-ah is smart, beautiful and admired by everyone at school even Jin-woo. One day, when Seon-ah forgets her textbook, Jin-woo lends her his book and that small act slowly brings them closer.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. Despite her hard work, Seon-ah makes a big mistake on her college entrance exam and misses out on her dream university in Seoul. On the other hand, Jin-woo, inspired by her dedication, focuses on his studies and manages to get into a university in Seoul. Even though they try to keep in touch, time and distance slowly pull them apart after they fail to express their feelings for each other.

Talking about his on-screen chemistry with Dahyun, Jinyoung shared how deeply he got into his character while filming. During the film’s press conference held in Yongsan District, central Seoul, Jinyoung mentioned that as the story progressed, he found himself seeing Dahyun as Seon-ah rather than herself which helped him portray Jin-woo’s emotions more naturally.
