Renowned writer Javed Akhtar expressed his relief on Friday following the recovery of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was recently injured in a shocking knife attack at his Bandra residence. Speaking at the Whistling Woods convocation ceremony, Akhtar shared with PTI, “We were all deeply worried. It’s a relief to know he has returned home from the hospital.”
The horrifying incident occurred during an attempted robbery in Khan’s 12th-floor apartment. The 54-year-old actor suffered multiple stab wounds and underwent two surgeries at Lilavati Hospital. He was discharged on Tuesday and is now recovering at home.
Mumbai Police have apprehended the attacker, identified as Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India last year under the alias Vijay Das. The accused is in police custody, with authorities set to request an extension of his remand in court on Friday.
Details of the incident have come to light through the actor’s statement to the police. Saif reportedly recounted that he intervened after hearing his young son Jeh’s cries. He discovered the intruder attacking Jeh’s nurse, Eliam Philip, and immediately tackled the assailant. However, after being repeatedly stabbed in the back, Saif’s grip loosened. “My family and staff were terrified witnessing the chaos,” the actor shared.
Despite the traumatic episode, the family is beginning to return to normalcy. Saif’s son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, has resumed work on his debut film, Diler. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the sports drama pairs Ibrahim with South Indian star Sreeleela, generating significant buzz around his Bollywood debut.
