Guwahati, Jan 6: In a bid to promote tourism and highlight India’s cultural heritage, Indian Railways has introduced a Bharat Gaurav special train connecting Rana Pratap Nagar in Rajasthan to Kamakhya in Guwahati. The seven-day tour, which started on January 3, is set to conclude on January 9.
According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the train left Rana Pratap Nagar on January 3 and arrived at Kamakhya on January 5. The train will remain in Guwahati for two days, giving tourists the chance to explore the region’s attractions. The journey will resume on January 7, with the train returning to Rajasthan on January 9.
The special tourist train will pass through several major railway stations, including Ajmer, Jaipur, Agra, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, among others. Passengers will be accommodated in Sleeper class and AC-3 tier coaches, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.
This initiative, aligned with the Government of India’s ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ and ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaigns, aims to provide an affordable travel option that showcases the cultural richness of India. It is expected to benefit travelers, especially from North Bengal and surrounding regions, who would otherwise face higher costs when visiting multiple destinations individually.
One of the key highlights of the tour is the Kamakhya Temple, located on Nilachal Hills, 7 km from Guwahati. This 16th-century Shakti temple is a significant pilgrimage site, attracting both Tantric worshippers and Hindus from across the country.
