Indian Navy Divers Deployed to Rescue Trapped Miners in Assam

Guwahati: In response to an urgent request for assistance, the Indian Navy has deployed a specialized team to aid in the rescue of miners trapped in Umrangso, located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.

The team, airlifted from Visakhapatnam, comprises one officer and eleven sailors, including highly trained Clearance Divers experienced in deep-sea diving and recovery operations. Arriving at the site late on January 7, 2025, the team immediately commenced rescue efforts.

Equipped with advanced tools, including deep-diving gear and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), the team is undertaking search and rescue missions in coordination with the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local civil authorities. This collaborative effort aims to ensure a swift and effective response to the crisis.

Regular communication among all agencies involved is being maintained to facilitate seamless and timely rescue operations.

The Indian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to providing prompt assistance during emergencies, emphasizing its dedication to safeguarding lives and supporting the nation in times of need.
