I have done my best to bring down crime rate in Andhra Pradesh by using technology, says outgoing DGP

Director General of Police (DGP) Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who is retiring from service on attaining superannuation on January 31 (Friday), shared his experiences during his 35 years of service in the Police Department with the media on Thursday.

“A lot of changes have come in the department in the last three decades. My advice to the young officers is to work hard and render justice to the poor and needy,” Mr. Tirumala Rao said.

The DGP said he had done his best to bring down the crime rate by using the latest technology and in strengthening the department, and that he was demitting office with immense satisfaction.

“I was one of the police officers who interrogated terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who had been captured alive by the police forces during the Mumbai attack on November 26, 2008,” Mr. Tirumala Rao said.

He said that the Greyhounds Training Institute would come up at Relli village in Vizianagaram district and the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy near Agiripalli.

“Plans are afoot to set up cybercrime police stations in each district, improve vigil by enhancing technological infrastructure such as CCTV cameras and drones,” Mr. Tirumala Rao said.

Crime Investigation Department (CID) Director-General of Police Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, Additional Director-General (Law and Order) N. Madhusudhan Reddy, and Additional Director-General (Intelligence) Mahesh Chandra Laddha were among other officers present.
