The Kerala High Court has ordered that no new permanent or temporary flagpoles or masts be allowed to be installed by anyone in public spaces of the State without the requisite permissions under the law from the competent authorities.

Justice Devan Ramachandran while issuing the directive recently observed that it was obvious that the government was procrastinating the formulation of a policy on removing illegal boards and flags because they were put up by entities like political parties, trade unions, etc.

The court directed the Secretary of the Local Self-governments department to issue a circular informing all the local bodies about the High Court directive.
