The Madras High Court on Friday requested Advocate General P.S. Raman to hold discussions with Social Welfare department secretary and find out by when the government would constitute the Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR).

A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and K. Rajasekar made the request to the A-G during the course of hearing of a suo motu writ petition taken up by the High Court in 2018, at the request of the Supreme Court, to follow up the issue of child rights closely.

After finding the A-G to be waiting to appear for another case, the judges requested him to take up the issue of the TNCPCR being dysfunctional for nearly three years and asked him to find out by when the government would be able to constitute the commission.

They directed the Registry to list the suo motu case after two weeks to enable the A-G to get instructions by then.
