Harshvardhan Rane Reacts To Nepotism, Says Outsiders Are On ‘Top’: ‘Not Many Star Kids Have Found Work…’Harshvardhan Rane is relishing the newfound appreciation for Sanam Teri Kasam, which recently returned to cinemas. Grateful for the recognition, the actor maintains that he never harboured any resentment towards star kids despite their seemingly easier entry into the industry.

In a conversation with India Today, Harshvardhan opened up about nepotism in Bollywood. When asked whether the ongoing discussions about star kids made him bitter about his career, he responded, “Honestly, I am someone who believes in writing down things rather than just believing the voices floating around me. When people talk about star kids getting all the opportunities, I write their names and realise 8 out of 10 have already vanished from the scene. Hence, I am not able to feel resentment when I do the mathematics and realise how outsiders are the ones who continue to get good work. How can we not look at their success? I can thus never bring myself to complain about it.”

Further explaining his perspective, he added, “This is not any kind of positive affirmation, but it’s facts. I think every time someone has a doubt, they should make a note. There are no biases or partialities, just hard facts. Not many star kids have found work eventually, and it’s the outsiders who are at the top.”

Harshvardhan made his Bollywood debut with the 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, which recently re-released in theatres on February 7. Though the film was made on a budget of rs 14 crore, it struggled at the box office, earning only Rs 9.1 crore and being deemed a commercial failure. Despite its initial reception, the film, which also marked Mawra Hocane’s Bollywood debut, is now receiving a warm response in its second theatrical run.

Sanam Teri Kasam is a romantic drama film written and directed by Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru. Produced by Deepak Mukut, the film also starred Anurag Sinha, Manish Chaudhari, Murli Sharma and Sudesh Berry. The film is a modern rendition of the legends of Shiva-Sati and the novel Love Story by Eric Segal.
