Acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s National Award-winning film Shahid is set to return to the big screen with a special re-release. A special screening has been scheduled for February 26, 2025. Released in 2013, Shahid is a biographical drama based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, received widespread critical acclaim for its gripping narrative and powerful performances. Mehta won the National Film Award for Best Director, while Rao was honored with the National Film Award for Best Actor. The movie had received rave reviews when it was released on October 18, 2013.
Apart from Shahid having a special screening on February 26, a wider re-release is also planned in May to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The event is organised by the Versova Homage Society.
Producer Sunil Bohra and Hansal Mehta are excited about the re-release, as per reports. “We are indeed holding a special screening of the film organized by the Versova Homage Society to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the film,” Sunil told ETimes.
He also shared that he and Mehta are planning a wider re-release. “Hansal Mehta and I are planning a re-release of the film sometime in May. I am grateful to Hansal Mehta for allowing me to produce this film.”
Bohra added, “A film like Shahid happens very rarely in any producer or filmmaker’s life. I am and will always be thankful to Hansal Mehta for giving me this opportunity to produce this film. We are planning surely to re-release it in cinemas very soon.”
The re-release aims to introduce the film to a new generation of audiences. Further details are expected to be announced soon. The special screening will also feature an interactive session with the cast. It will be moderated by filmmaker-writer Tigmanshu Dhulia.
