J. Naresh Babu, a Guntur-based spine surgeon, has been honoured with the Best Spine Clinical Research Award 2024 by the Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI). The award was presented during the association’s annual conference held in Bengaluru recently, Dr. Naresh informed in a press release here on Monday. This recognition includes a medal and a cash prize of ₹25,000.
“The research, conducted at Mallika Spine Centre in Guntur focuses on understanding the reasons behind the worsening of cervical spondylitis. It investigates how day-to-day neck movements influence the progression of symptoms in patients with cervical spondylitis and nerve compression. The study evaluated 50 patients suffering from neck pain and cervical spondylitis using Dynamic MRI in sitting positions and during neck movements,” Dr. Naresh Babu explained.
Dr. Naresh Babu’s research offers valuable insights into the mechanical basis of symptom progression in cervical conditions, paving the way for better diagnosis and management strategies.
In another development, Dr. Naresh Babu was elected as the secretary of the ASSI in a keenly contested online election involving five candidates across the country — Delhi, Chennai, Pune and Trivandrum. This is the first time a spine surgeon from the Telugu States has been elected to this position.
Dr. Naresh Babu will serve as the joint secretary and treasurer from 2025 to 2027, and will take over as the secretary of the association for the 2027-2029 term.
