Environmental Protection Association president Y. Krishnamurthy urged the government to take more steps for the protection of wetlands in Srikakulam district and other parts of the State as they will ensure an ecological balance. Along with Green Climate Team founder J.V. Ratnam, Jana Sena Party (JSP) State secretary Valisetty Satyanarayana, he participated in the ‘Swamp Conservation Day’ observed at Sompeta in Srikakulam district on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that effective implementation of the Biodiversity Act-2002 will prevent encroachments of water bodies. Mr. Ratnam urged the youngsters to understand the importance of nature protection. The Environmental Protection Association had played a vital role in stopping the destruction of wetlands when a thermal power plant was proposed near Sompeta 15 years ago, he added.
