Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Thursday condemned the Tiruttani Municipality for its removal of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Ma.Po.Si. Salai without any prior notice. In a statement, he alleged that his party had raised objections to the statue’s removal when the proposal was mooted by the municipality last year. Without serving a prior notice or responding to objections, the civic body had removed the statue overnight, which is highly condemnable, Mr. Vasan said. He also urged the State government to reinstall the statue at the same place or at another suitable place in the nearby market.
