BIGBANG’s G-Dragon has made a massive comeback with his third studio album, Ubermensch. Since its release on February 25, the album climbed to the top of music charts in South Korea and internationally. It dominated both digital and physical sales within hours of its release.

On February 28, his agency, Galaxy Corporation, shared that Ubermensch had already reached No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums charts in at least 28 regions. These included Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, France, Sweden, Canada, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia and many more.

In terms of physical sales, the numbers were record-breaking. Koreaboo quoting the Hanteo Chart reported that Ubermensch sold 639,176 copies on its first day alone. This figure was already much higher than G-Dragon’s previous first-week sales record which was 46,397. The record was set by his 2017 mini-album Kwon Ji Yong.

By the end of the first week, Ubermensch had sold over 832,700 copies. This massive jump has caught the attention on social media. While the K-pop superstar has always been a popular artist, the sudden surge in sales compared to his past releases has led to mixed reactions.

Many fans were amazed that G-Dragon was able to reach a new career high even after so many years in the industry. Others felt that album sales today work very differently compared to the past.

One user wrote, “When will people understand that you can’t simply compare 2nd gen to 3rd/4th/5th gen? Mass streaming wasn’t even a thing back then. They all relied on album sales, concert sales, and MV views. No Spotify, no ads.”

Another argued, “Back then, the ‘first-week sales’ culture didn’t exist, LOL.”

Someone else remarked, “2017 was the heyday of the third generation. It was very much there.”

An individual amazed by G-Dragon’s success commented, “Wow, this is really impressive. Is he really a 2nd-gen idol?”

Another wrote, “20 years in, and he just set a new career high.”

G-Dragon’s Ubermensch has a total of eight tracks. Along with the album release, he also dropped music videos for two new songs, Drama and Too Bad. The album also includes previously released tracks like Power and Home Sweet Home.

In other news, the BIGBANG member will also embark on his first world tour in eight years. The tour will begin with two concerts on March 29 and 30 at Goyang Stadium in Goyang, Gyeonggi. According to Korea JoongAng Daily, tickets for his long-awaited solo concert were sold out in record time.
