The Federation of Student Organisations-Tamil Nadu (FSO-TN) has announced it would stage a ‘black flag’ protest against Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar’s visit to Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT M) on Friday (February 28, 2025).
The group, in a statement, said the protest was to condemn the Union government for refusing to release funds for the school education sector and imposing the condition that it would be released only if Tamil Nadu adopted the National Education Policy (NEP), which, among other things, prescribed a three-language policy.
Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan, who was to come to IIT Madras, has cancelled his visit owing to the protest, the FSO-TN claimed, adding “it is a victory for the students’ protests.”
DMK students’ wing secretary C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan would lead the protest.
FSO-TN held protests across the State on February 25, 2025, against the Union government for the non-release of funds.
