Four members of a Sri Lankan Tamil family arrived in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, by sea on Monday (February 24, 2025). A couple and their two sons, all natives of Vavuniya in Sri Lanka, were dropped off on the fourth islet near Rameswaram by a fibre boat.
Indian Coast Guard, through a hover craft, picked them up and handed them over to the Rameswaram Marine Police. The refugees were identified as B. Kalaiselvan, 37, B. Kirubana, 33, B. Jibin, 9, and B. Sharwin, 5, said sources. The family had previously entered India and returned to Sri Lanka in 2019, following a brief stay at the Cheyyar Sri Lankan rehabilitation camp in Tiruvannamalai.
With this, the total number of Sri Lankan Tamils who have reached Tamil Nadu following the economic crisis in their country has risen to 320.
