The police on Friday booked four high school students who were allegedly involved in a clash near a private tuition centre at Thamarassery in Kozhikode, Kerala, causing severe head injury to a Class 10 boy. The students were from two different schools who reportedly resorted to a street fight following a quarrel related to a farewell party on February 23.

According to police sources, Mohammed Shahabas, the injured student, was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital in a critical condition.

The clash took place following an altercation over the stopped music during a dance performance at the local tuition centre.

Police sources said there were about 15 students, including girls, at the spot when the clash took place. The students dispersed only when a few teachers turned up and warned of disciplinary actions. A few students were suspected of creating a WhatsApp group to fuel the clash and call students to the crime spot, they said.

Though Mohammed Shahabas sustained grave injuries in the clash, he was first taken to his home by a few students who triggered the clash at the spot. By the time he was taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, he was found to be in a state of coma.

The police have quizzed two high school students who reportedly fuelled the clash near the tuition centre.
