Prince William and Kate Middleton’s former royal aide, Jason Knauf, recently spoke about the 2018 controversy surrounding Meghan Markle. He had accused the latter of bullying a junior palace staff nearly seven years ago, raising concerns about her treatment of the staff. In a new interview, Jason reflected on the intense scrutiny and the challenges that came with his allegations against Meghan Markle.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia released on February 23, the former royal aide was asked if he would do anything differently after looking at the consequences. He firmly said, “I wouldn’t change anything.” While he acknowledged the difficulty of dealing with the media attention, he admitted that it was a part of the job. “I think it, it’s tough, but it’s probably quite good,” he said, adding, “You know, as someone who has been helping other people deal with the public eye, you probably have to take your own medicine sometimes.”

Jason first raised concerns about Meghan’s behaviour in 2018, alleging that she mistreated her junior staff. His internal email claimed that she bullied two PAs. Three years later, in 2021, right before Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, the letter surfaced on public forums, sparking a widespread controversy. The Duchess of Sussex has repeatedly denied the claims, often describing them as an attack on her character and a smear campaign against her.

Further in the interview, Jason insisted he had no regrets over his decision. “You can’t choose just to take the fun stuff in any job. And that applies to the Prince and Princess as well as everyone else working for them. So I wouldn’t change anything,” he added.

Despite the controversy, Jason has no bitter feelings for Harry or Meghan. He shared that they had “lots of great times.” And he even recalled the couple’s wedding in 2018. “Working on their wedding was an amazing, magical experience, and you know I wish them absolutely all the best with their lovely family,” expressed Jason.

Jason Knauf left his position as the Chief Executive Officer for The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2022. Since stepping away from his role in the royal household, Jason has continued to make an impact by being on the board of trustees for the Earthshot Prize, Prince William’s environmental initiative.
