
Former MP and senior Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan has been named the new AICC in charge of Telangana with immediate effect.
AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal in the orders issued on Friday (February 14, 2025) night announced two new party general secretaries in-charges for Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and nine in-charges.
Ms. Meenakshi Natarajan replaces Deepadas Munshi, who will now be in charge of Kerala. Mr. Deepadas Munshi had assumed the role of in charge of Telangana in December 2023 days after the Congress party rode to power in the State.
A close confidante of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Ms. Meenakshi Natarajan started her political career with NSUI, the students wing of the party in Madhya Pradesh, and was spotted by the party’s central leadership and made AICC general secretary in 2008.
In the 2009 general elections, the Congress fielded her from Mandasaur, where she humbled seasoned politician and entered the Lok Sabha. However, she lost the 2014 and 2019 elections in a row from the same constituency.
