A picture featuring the actor Abhishek Banerjee went viral last month. It showed him shooting for a film in the middle of crores of people at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Now that the actor has wrapped the shoot for Mahasangam, he sat down for an interview to share his experience of the same. Calling it ‘rare’, Abhishek admitted that he felt a divine intervention while shooting for his upcoming project at the sacred site.
Abhishek Banerjee, in an interaction with Hindustan Times, said, “It was a rare experience for the entire crew, as no one had done anything like this before. As actors, we are used to silence and isolation on the set. Par yahan hum log shor ke saath acting kar rahe the. I feel there was a divine intervention. We did the shoot without any VIP culture — ek aam aadmi ki tarah.”
Shedding light on the planning that went behind shooting the film, Abhishek mentioned that the team had done the homework well and also had a storyboard. However, soon after the shooting commenced, everything went for a toss as no planning worked among such a crowd, as the actor said, adding that it was nothing sort of an adventure,
Talking further, Abhishek recalled, “I stopped thinking beyond the scenes. Throughout scenes, shots, frames, locations and portrayal, we were improvising. The shoot does generally get disturbed when there are so many people around. Some may walk in to shake hands, and others may try to disturb the cameraman. But, fortunately, the people there were understanding. They were all on a mission to take a holy dip.”
In the same conversation, the actor also shared that he shot in Prayagraj for eight days. Before filming on the holy site, they were in Varanasi to shoot for Mahasangam. The forthcoming feature film explores the story of a father, son and daughter caught in a complex dynamic over a musical inheritance. The film is set against the backdrop of the largest confluence of humanity on earth.
Apart from Mahakumbh, Abhishek Banerjee will be next seen in the OTT series Rana Naidu 2. The show stars Rana Daggubati in the lead role. Besides, he will also be a part of Rajkummar Rao-starrer Toaster and Vipul Shah’s Hisaab alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Shaifali Shah.
