The Excise Department officials in Musheerabad arrested two people transporting ganja in an autorickshaw, in Domalguda, on Wednesday. Over six kilograms of the contraband was seized from them.
Guddu Kumar and Chetukumar Yadav, both natives of Jharkhand, were arrested. The accused came to Hyderabad in search of employment and were working as auto drivers.
They sourced the contraband from Odisha. A case was booked and investigation is underway to trace the supplier.
Trio held with 1.6 kg ganja
Meanwhile, three persons involved in illegal sale of ganja and bike thefts were arrested by the Nalgonda police. A total of 1.6 kg of ganja worth ₹35,000 and a motorbike was seized from them.
Lingagalla Poorna Chandu, Kanukuntla Jagadish, both aged 19, and Harijan Mahesh, 20, were arrested by the police on Miryalaguda road in Nalgonda town when they arrived to sell the contraband.
Investigation revealed that the duo purchased two kilograms of ganja in Hyderabad’s Balanagar and travelled to Nalgonda on a stolen two-wheeler on the night of January 16. They two were immediately arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Nalgonda Superintendent of Police Sharat Chandra Pawar warned of legal action against not only the suppliers, but also consumers of ganja. The official encouraged citizens to report cases either by dialling 100 or 8712670141, ensuring that details of the informants will be kept confidential.
