Farmer dies in elephant attack in Alur; sparks protest against Karnataka government

A farmer died in an elephant attack at Adibylu village in Alur taluk on Tuesday evening.

Puttaiah, 78, came under the attack while he was returning to his village on foot after a visit to Magge village. A lone tusker, which had been sighted in the area, trampled him to death. He is survived by his wife and a son.

His body was found later on Wednesday morning. The villagers, who went in search of Puttaiah, found him dead. His bag and other belongings were found near him in a coffee estate. Following his death, the people of Adibylu and neighbouring villages staged protests condemning the State government for failing to address the issue of elephant attacks.

Hassan Lok Sabha member Shreyas M. Patel, MLA Cement Manju, former Minister H.K. Kumaraswamy, and others visited the family. The Forest Department officials handed over a relief cheque to the kins of the deceased.
