Ahead of a mega ex-servicemen’s rally on March 9, 2025, the Indian Army restored the family pension of the mother of a deceased soldier in Assam.
Hailing from a village in the Tamulpur district, Barun Chandra Boro from 7 Guards died in the line of duty a few years ago. The family pension of his mother Biwari Boro, however, was stopped in 2021.
“The family pension was halted due to procedural lapses following her husband’s death. During a veterans’ outreach programme over a year ago, the Tamulpur Brigade (near the India-Bhutan border) identified her plight and took up the matter,” Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat said on Friday (March 7, 2025).
The necessary documentation was rectified through sustained coordination between the Regimental Centre and the bank concerned, leading to the reinstatement of Ms. Boro’s pension.
A few days ago, ₹17 lakh in arrears was credited to her account and her monthly pension was restored. “It is a huge relief,” Ms. Boro said, thanking the officers of the Tamulpur Brigade for helping her put more than three years of financial hardship behind.
An Army official said more than 4,500 veterans, widows and mothers of fallen soldiers are expected to attend the mega ex-servicemen’s rally at the Tamulpur military station. The Eastern Command and Gajraj Corps are organising the rally.
