An FIR has been registered against Anil Mishra.
An FIR has been filed against Anil Mishra, Founder and Managing Director of the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF), and his son Abhishek Mishra, in connection with allegations of embezzlement involving awards. According to a report by Amar Ujala, the FIR has been filed at Mumbai’s Bandra police station. The report further alleges that Anil Mishra’s wife, Parvati Mishra, and their daughter, Shweta Mishra, were also implicated in the embezzlement scheme.
Mishra’s organization, the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Award (DPIFF), is not officially registered. It is reported that applications for registration were submitted three times, each with slight modifications to the name, but were rejected by the government on all occasions. Furthermore, Anil Mishra’s membership with the Central Board of Film Certification has expired.
As per the report, Mumbai’s Bandra Police registered an FIR on February 5 against Anil Mishra and his son Abhishek Mishra under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS-2023). The FIR was filed by Sameer Dixit, State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Chitrapat Aghadi unit.
Anil Mishra, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, previously worked as a spot boy for filmmaker Anil Sharma. He later founded the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards and is accused of allegedly selling awards to film actors.
According to the report, awards were allegedly sold to films that had commercially underperformed at the box office, along with their lead actors. The embezzlement scheme reportedly generated significant revenue for Mishra, who is said to have earned crores from government and semi-government institutions through sponsorships.
According to the report, Mishra had organised an award show slated for February 20 at the Taj Lands End, a five-star hotel in Bandra. However, the company—International Tourism Festival Private Limited—under whose name he obtained event approval, has since been shut down. Mishra is accused of misleading the Bandra police to secure the necessary permissions. A case has been registered against him, and it is likely that the approval for the event will be revoked.
