Ed Sheeran, who wrapped up his + – = ÷ x (Mathematics) Tour in Gurgaon on February 15, reminisced about the good times spent in India. On Friday (February 21), the British singer uploaded a video on Instagram highlighting some unforgettable moments from his visit. Ed, also embedded a clip featuring the viral Bengaluru incident where his gig at Church Street was abruptly halted by the police. Instead of expressing disappointment over the unwanted situation, the Shape of You singer took the matter in his stride. In a playful twist, Ed linked the unpleasant occurrence to a popular meme inspired by Ranbir Kapoor’s 2011 film Rockstar.

The video opened with Ed Sheeran revealing that he was excited to experience India this time like never before. He said, “All the times I have been to India, I have only been really out in the evening and it’s been like really controlled. So, I am actually excited now to be out in the thick of it. The clip soon transitioned into fans being candid about how much they admire Ed.

From attending qawwalis to taking a stroll in the vibrant lanes, the video documented it all. Glimpses from his concerts were also a part of the clip. Snippets from him playing football on the sidelines of his Shillong concert made it to the post as well. Additionally, Ed incorporated cutaways from his visit to Arijit Singh’s hometown in Jiaganj, Murshidabad. A blink-and-you-miss-it segment showed the duo enjoying a scooter ride.

The most interesting bit of the post arrived when Ed Sheeran integrated the footage where the Bengaluru cops unexpectedly shut down his performance. Accompanying the snippet was the meme presenting the film sequence from Rockstar where Ranbir Kapoor’s character Jordan was similarly accosted by the police. The post concluded with Ed admitting that his favourite Indian food was butter chicken.

“India, that was fun. Till next time,” read Ed Sheeran’s side note.

A few days after the Bengaluru incident, Ed Sheeran clarified in a statement that he and his team sought “permission to busk” in the area. A police official, however, dismissed the claim stating that the permission was due to heavy foot traffic on Chruch Street.
