Rakesh Roshan in a recent interview spoke about his deep passion for filming in extraordinary locations.

Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was a blockbuster that served as a debut film for Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel in Bollywood. The romantic thriller became an instant hit not just for its engaging storyline but also for its melodious songs. One of the most memorable parts of the movie was the island sequence where the lead characters find themselves stranded on a beautiful yet isolated island. Recently, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan shared an interesting story about how he found this stunning location.
While speaking to Pinkvilla, Rakesh revealed that during the film’s pre-production, he travelled to Australia in search of a suitable ship for filming. However, none of the options he saw met his expectations which left him disappointed. While still looking for the perfect setting, he came across a postcard in Athens. The postcard featured a sailboat which initially caught his attention but what truly stood out to him was another postcard right beside it which featured unique rock formations in the middle of the sea. This was Krabi Island in Thailand.
Rakesh then flew from Australia to Phuket and drove for four hours to reach Krabi. The moment he arrived, he knew this was exactly what he had been searching for. He described it as “the location I had always dreamed of.”
The director also spoke about his deep passion for filming in extraordinary locations. He explained that whenever he starts working on a film, the first thing he does after finalising the script is to explore different locations. “I dream about those locations and I will go to every corner of the world to find the location I have dreamt of,” he added.
Written, directed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was released in theatres on January 14, 2000. Alongside Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel, the film stars Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Mohnish Bahl, Ashish Vidyarthi, Satish Shah, Farida Jalal, Asha Patel, Rajesh Tandon and Tannaz Irani.
The story of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai revolves around Rohit and Sonia who fall in love. However, their happiness is short-lived when Rohit is murdered. Devastated by his loss, Sonia travels to New Zealand where she unexpectedly meets Raj, a man who looks exactly like Rohit. As the story unfolds, Raj helps Sonia uncover the mystery behind Rohit’s death. Together, they work to expose the criminals and seek justice.
Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was recently re-released on January 10. This special release not only honoured the movie’s 25th anniversary, but also marked Hrithik Roshan’s 51st birthday.
