Police in southern Assam’s Sribhumi district recovered a drone close to the India-Bangladesh border on Thursday (May 8, 2025).
District officials said the drone was found abandoned in the Charbazar area and was examined at the local police station.
“We are trying to ascertain the origin and the intended purpose of the drone, although preliminary investigation suggests it may have been operated from across the international border,” a police official said, not ruling out the possibility of cross-border surveillance or other illegal activities.
Several drones have either been spotted or found along the India-Bangladesh border since the Sheikh Hasina government was overthrown in August 2024. Border guards and villagers in Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura have recovered at least six of them since then.
