The Chennammanakere Achukattu police on Wednesday arrested a dismissed Panchayath Development Officer (PDO) who was allegedly involved in a series of cheating cases and had escaped to Sri Lanka.

The accused Yogendra was nabbed as soon as he landed at the Kempegowda International Airport where the security officials had detained him following a lookout circular issued against him and handed him over to CK Acchukattu police.

Lokesh B Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south division), said that Yogendra had cheated a man by promising him a government job and had escaped with ₹17 lakh. Following a complaint, he was arrested by the police but later got out on bail. A probe revealed that the accused had cheated multiple people using a similar modus operandi.

Considering his criminal background, the government dismissed him from the PDO post in Yellapura in Uttara Kannada. The accused allegedly cheated a businessman on the pretext of investing in crypto currency and promising to double his amount in a short period.

The businessman gave him ₹1.35 crore but Yogendra escaped to Dubai with the money. Based on a complaint in V.V. Puram police station, the police got an arrest warrant and lookout circular issued against him. Yogendra shifted his base from Dubai to Sri Lanka and was nabbed when he returned to Bengaluru by flight on Tuesday, the police said.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
