A hearing was conducted by the Delimitation Commission, chaired by the State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan, on Friday to address complaints regarding the division and boundary determination of wards and divisions in the local self-government institutions of Thrissur district.

The complaints considered were those received by the Delimitation Commission until December 4, 2024. A total of 1,223 complaints were filed in the district. The hearings were held in person to resolve the objections, and the Chairperson assured that fair decisions would be made on the complaints. The commission listened to the grievances of all the complainants who attended the hearing.

Three sessions

Complaints were considered from 81 grama panchayats, 7 municipalities, and the Corporation, excluding those from Chazhoor, Edathiruthy, Mala, Kaipamangalam, and Nattika panchayats. The hearings were conducted in three sessions. The hearing began with the complaints from the Thrissur Municipal Corporation and panchayats in the Chavakkad, Chovvannur, Wadakkanchery, and Pazhayannur blocks.

In the second session, complaints from panchayats of Puzhakkal, Thalikkulam, Anthikkad, Cherup, Ollukara blocks, and municipalities of Kunnamkulam, Irinjalakuda, Chavakkad, and Chalakudy were heard. Complaints from panchayats of Kodakkara, Irinjalakuda, Vellankallur, Mathilakam, Mala, Mullassery, and Chalakudy block panchayats, along with those from Guruvayur, and Kodungallur municipalities were considered in the afternoon session.

The hearing was held at the Thrissur Town Hall and was attended by Commission member and secretary of the Information and Public Relations department S. Harikishore, District Collector Arjun Pandian, Secretary of the Delimitation Commission S. Josnamol, Election Deputy Collector K. Krishnakumar, Delimitation Commission officials, district election officials, petitioners, and secretaries of the local self-government institutions that submitted complaints.
