Cyrus Broacha defends Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina amid the India’s Got Latent controversy, calling the backlash an overreaction.
Comedian and Bigg Boss OTT 2 contestant Cyrus Broacha has voiced his support for Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina amid the ongoing India’s Got Latent controversy. The backlash against the duo has drawn reactions from several public figures, with Cyrus calling the outrage excessive and unwarranted.
Speaking at an ABP News event on Friday, Cyrus expressed his frustration over how Ranveer and Samay are being vilified. “In India, two words are often overused—’Parampara’ and ‘Sanskriti.’ Your tradition, my tradition, your morality, my morality—these can differ. Let’s be honest, how many of you have consumed porn? Or rather, how many haven’t? When all these things are accessible online, how bad is this?” he questioned, highlighting the hypocrisy surrounding the uproar.
Cyrus further criticized the legal complaints filed against the two, deeming them unnecessary. He explained that India’s Got Latent draws inspiration from Tony Hinchcliffe’s Kill Tony, a popular roast-style show known for its bold and unfiltered humor. “This is a roast show. People talk like this. They shouldn’t be treated like criminals or have their careers jeopardized,” he added.
The controversy erupted after a clip from India’s Got Latent, an adult comedy show hosted by Samay Raina with Ranveer Allahbadia as a panelist, went viral. The explicit jokes and edgy humor led to accusations of promoting indecency and disrespecting Indian culture.
In response to the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia quickly issued an apology, clarifying that comedy is not his forte and he never intended to offend anyone. Samay Raina, along with fellow panelists Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and Jasprit Singh, is now facing legal complaints as the controversy continues to escalate.
While some, like Cyrus, argue that comedy thrives on pushing boundaries, others believe that such humor should be restrained, especially in public platforms. Notable voices from the entertainment industry, including Munawar Faruqui, Vishal Dadlani, Uorfi Javed, and Rakhi Sawant, have also weighed in, further fueling the debate.
