The three-day district conference of the CPI(M) began at Chittur near here on Tuesday. Inaugurating the delegates session, CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan reiterated that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was focused on creating a ‘new Kerala’. He criticised the Congress and the BJP for focusing their attention on attacking the LDF rather than addressing the real issues facing the State.

He said the State had progressed by challenging superstitions and empowering women.

Mr. Govindan pointed out that the Opposition, the BJP, and media outlets were launching a targeted attack on the Left. “But despite these obstacles, the LDF remains committed to pushing forward,” he said.

He said the UDF and the BJP had adopted a stance that hindered the State’s development.

Senior CPI(M) member hoisted the party flag at the conference. P. Mammikutty, MLA, introduced a resolution on martyrs. A. Prabhakaran, MLA, moved a condolence resolution.

State committee member C.K. Rajendran was chosen as presiding official. Politburo member A. Vijayaraghavan, Central committee members A.K. Balan, K.K. Shailaja, Elamaram Kareem, P.K. Sreemathi, K. Radhakrishnan and C.S. Sujata, State secretariat members T.P. Ramakrishnan, K.K. Jayachandran, Anavoor Nagappan, Puthalath Dinesan, P.K. Biju, and M. Swaraj are attending the conference.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the valedictory session to be held at Mettupalayam, Chittur, on Thursday evening.
