The Kerala Police have issued a lookout notice for Malayalam actor Kootickal Jayachandran aka KR Jayachandran ever since a POCSO case was registered against him. He has been absconding after been accused of raping a 4-year-old child. A case was registered at Kasaba police station in Kozhikode in 2024 by the survivor’s mother through the Child Protection Unit.

The actor had earlier approached the Kerala High Court for bail but his plea was rejected based on the evidence provided. According to a report by Mathrubhumi now, the actor has sought anticipatory bail again from the Supreme Court.

The officials in the case have recorded the child’s statement and they have mentioned that the statement should not be considered unreliable at all. The Kerala police, meanwhile, had urged the public to provide information on the actor’s whereabouts.

The actor has been charged with rape and other provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. His lawyer filed the anticipatory bail petition in the Supreme Court, and it is expected to be reviewed either this week or next week.

According to a Kerala Kaumudi report, Jayachandran raped the close relative’s 4-year-old child at her mother’s home. The child revealed this incident to her grandmother while attending a funeral. The survivor’s relatives swiftly lodged a formal complaint with the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner. The child narrated her ordeal to a psychologist and magistrate as well. Later, a medical examination was held which showed injuries suspecting rape.

Meanwhile, the complaint by the survivor’s family reportedly states that action has been delayed against the accused as it has been six months since the complaint was filed. They have also said that the accused is likely to flee the country and that there is a threat to the child.

Jayachandran was last seen in the 2024 Malayalam films Chithini and Thanupp, apart from the TV show Constable Manju.
