Congress alleges 140 women raped, 40 murdered in one-year count in Tripura

The Opposition Congress has on Saturday (March 29, 2025) alleged that at least 140 women were raped and 40 were murdered in Tripura over a period of one year. PCC president Ashish Kumar Saha stated that these facts have been confirmed by government records.

He criticised the current Bharatiya Janata Party-led three-party alliance government for the rampant lawlessness and deplorable conditions for women in the state.

Mr. Saha met with former AICC President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to discuss organisational matters and the political situation in the state.

The Congress High Command reportedly advised him to organise a series of political programmes to highlight the failures of the State government.

PCC president and other leaders attended a rally here on Saturday held by the women’s wing (Mahila Congress) of the party to protest against the alleged atrocities on women and the lack of implementation of policies aimed at empowering and developing women.

The protest leaders accused the law enforcement agencies of remaining silent and being hesitant to take swift action against the perpetrators of crime against women.
