The Coimbatore police on Wednesday (February 19, 2025) arrested a teacher of CBSE school in the district on the charge of sexually assaulting schoolgirls.
The police said that a drawing teacher working in the school was arrested based on a complaint from the principal of the institution.
A senior police officer said that some of the girls complained to the principal that the teacher, aged 57, hailing from Vadavalli near Coimbatore, behaved inappropriately with them while taking classes and on other occasions.
The principal lodged a complaint at the All Women Police Station, Coimbatore Central, where a case was registered against the teacher.
The teacher was arrested for offences under Sections 9 (aggravated sexual assault) and 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Wednesday.
The police officer added that a detailed investigation would be carried out to check whether the teacher had misbehaved with more students.
