
The HSR Layout police have arrested a 30-year-old city-based jeweller along with two of his security personnel for allegedly assaulting the owner of a restaurant and threatening him with a machete over a trivial row on Wednesday.
Based on the complaint filed by Thiruselvam S., owner of a popular restaurant in HSR Layout, the police charged Vishnu, under Arms Act, 1959, and various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. The accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. They were later released on bail.
According to the complaint, the accused had visited the hotel on February 9, in a new high end car without registration and damaged a car parked in front of the restaurant. The entire act was recorded on the CCTV installed in the premises. On February 26, The accused allegedly came near the restaurant again, when the hotel owner reportedly confronted them about the offence. The suspects told him to produce video evidence. When the complainant was looking in his phone for the video footage, the three in their car attempted to hit him and when he tried to move away, threatened him and brandished a machete, it is alleged.
A day earlier, an employee of the jeweller lodged a complaint against Vishnu, alleging that he and six others accused him of stealing gold jewels worth ₹3.5 Lakh, detained him illegally in a basement of the shop, assaulted and tortured him for over six hours. He alleged that he was forced to sign papers stating he would pay up for the missing gold. After getting treatment at the KC General hospital, the employee has filed a complaint with the Koramangala police on Tuesday. A case was registered against Vishnu and six others.
