
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has appealed to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar for a financial assistance to the tune of ₹55,652 crore for various developmental works proposed in Greater Hyderabad and other urban regions in the State.
Mr. Khattar, who is on a visit to the city, held a review meeting on Urban Development and Energy sectors on Friday, which was attended by Mr. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Member of Parliament Eatala Rajender, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari and other senior officials.
Underlining the fact that urban areas occupied 65% of Telangana’s geographical region, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to extend maximum support for the development of all the municipalities and corporations here including the State capital.
Mr. Khattar was shown a short film depicting the development of Hyderabad and other urban areas in Telangana, and Principal Secretary Municipal Administration & Urban Development M. Dana Kishore gave a presentation on various project proposals and development programmes in Telangana. Hyderabad City Innovative Transformative Infrastructure, elevated corridors, Metro Rail connectivity, East-West corridor, greenfield radial roads, Musi Riverfront Development, lake conservation, water security, Bhu Bharathi Act, HMDA Masterplan-2050, Future City and others were mentioned as part of the development agenda during the presentation.
A request was made for funding to the tune of ₹24,269 crore for the Metro Rail Phase-II, ₹10,000 crore for the Musi rejuvenation, ₹17,212 crore for sewerage masterplan, and ₹4,170 crore for the underground sewerage plan in Warangal.
Mr. Revanth Reddy explained the implementation and progress of the central sponsored schemes, including Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, Urban Infrastructure Development Fund, Swachh Bharat Mission 2, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Smart City Mission, and PM SVANidhi.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy requested the Union Minister to sanction at least 20 lakh homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 scheme. He said though two crore houses were granted across the country under Phase-1 of the scheme, only 1.58 lakh houses were sanctioned to Telangana. This constitutes 0.79% of the two crore houses when Telangana has 8% of India’s urban population. The State is eligible for more than 24 lakh houses, Mr. Reddy said.
Mr. Khattar made a special mention of the agreements signed towards investments worth ₹1.78 lakh crore in Telangana, at World Economic Forum’s annual meeting at Davos recently and congratulated Mr.Revanth Reddy. He assured consideration of all the matters brought to his notice by the higher officials, and support in every possible way.
