Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava shines at the box office, while Rashmika Mandanna faces criticism for her role as Yesubai Bhonsale.
Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava has been basking in immense praise since its release, with audiences and critics alike applauding the film’s gripping narrative and stellar performances. While the movie continues its victorious run at the box office, amassing nearly ₹228 crore within just eight days, Rashmika Mandanna’s portrayal of Maharani Yesubai Bhonsale has sparked a mixed bag of reactions.
However, Divya Dutta, who plays Rajmata Soyrabai Bhosale in the film, has come forward in support of Mandanna. In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, Dutta lauded the Animal actress as a “remarkable talent” and emphasized her consistent ability to deliver successful films.
“Let’s not forget that she has delivered several hits, which clearly means she has something that resonates with the audience,” Dutta stated, brushing aside the criticism.
Despite not sharing screen space with Mandanna in Chhaava, Dutta expressed her admiration for her co-star’s dedication and craft. She highlighted how Rashmika’s expressive, kohl-lined eyes in pivotal scenes added emotional depth to her character.
“Her track record speaks volumes. You can’t connect with audiences time and again unless you have something truly special,” Dutta added, further praising Mandanna’s professionalism and warm personality.
Acknowledging that opinions will always differ, Dutta maintained that both she and Mandanna delivered their best, alongside the rest of the cast. “What truly matters is the film’s success. Chhaava has emerged as one of the year’s biggest blockbusters, and that’s worth celebrating.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava follows the journey of Sambhaji Maharaj, Shivaji’s valiant son, as he rises to the throne, determined to fulfill his father’s vision of Swarajya while challenging Aurangzeb’s rule. The film also sheds light on Yesubai’s pivotal role in governing and safeguarding the Maratha kingdom during Sambhaji’s absence.
With power-packed performances from Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, Vineet Kumar, and Divya Dutta, Chhaava continues to reign supreme, both at the box office and in the hearts of moviegoers.
