Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is unstoppable at the box office. The historical action drama, directed by Laxman Utekar, is inching closer to the Rs 400 crore milestone in India. Since its release on February 14, the film has maintained a strong hold, benefitting from holidays and positive word of mouth.

According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 21.75 crore on day 13, taking its total Indian net collection to Rs 385 crore. The Maha Shivratri holiday boosted footfalls, as the film saw an increase from Rs 18.5 crore on day 12 to Rs 21.75 crore on day 13. The film had an overall 34.10% occupancy in Hindi, with morning shows recording 25.23%, afternoon 40.64%, and evening 36.42%.

Globally, Chhaava is making waves too. The film has crossed Rs 250 crore worldwide, solidifying its position as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 so far.

Based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel, Chhaava chronicles the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal. The film also features Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Divya Dutta, and Diana Penty in pivotal roles.

The film even received praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who mentioned it at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi. He said, “Ye Maharashtra aur Mumbai hi hai jisne Marathi filmo ke saath saath, Hindi cinema ko ye unchai di hai. Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai.”

Adding to its success, Chhaava is now set to release in Telugu. The news was announced by Maddock Films on Wednesday, with a poster of Vicky as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The Telugu version will hit cinemas on March 7, distributed by Geetha Arts.

With its stellar run at the box office, Chhaava shows no signs of slowing down.
