Cherukolpuzha Hindu religious meet begins

The 113th edition of the Ayiroor-Cherukolpuzha Hindu Matha Parishad commenced on Sunday. Marking the event’s opening, processions from various temples in the State were accorded reception at the event venue here in the morning. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar inaugurated the eight-day event at a function presided over by Hindu Matha Parishad president P.S. Nair.

In his inaugural address, the Governor said that Hinduism is more than a religion; it’s a way of life. “Politics may divide us, but as a nation and as a society, we must remain united. Without unity, our survival is at stake,” he said. He also underscored the importance of upholding humanity, stating, “The teachings of our ancient seers are all centred on humanity.”

The event saw the presence of prominent leaders, including Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan, Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, and Member of Parliament Anto Antony. On the occasion, Mr. Nair released Pampa Theertham, the official newspaper of the Parishad.

‘Guiding principle’

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Satheesan emphasised the omnipresence of God and cautioned against misinterpretations of religion. “India has a long-standing tradition of welcoming people from across the world. This inclusivity is the essence of Sanatana Dharma and the legacy of our sages. This should continue to be the guiding principle of Hinduism,” he said.

Till February 9

The event will feature several key sessions in the coming days. Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai will inaugurate a meeting of Ayyappa devotees on February 4. On February 5, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat will inaugurate a Hindu Ekatha Sammelan at 3.30 p.m, followed by a session on culture and ecology, which will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State George Kurien. The Parishad will conclude on February 9, with West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose presiding over the valedictory session.
