Considering the recommendation made by Ajay Singh, chairman of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) and Jewargi MLA, the State government has formed an eight-member committee to improve the educational scenario in the region.

As per the government order dated February 7, 2025, economist Chaya Degaonkar will lead the committee as its chairperson. Abdul Qadeer (Bidar), Mallikarjun M.S (Bidar), Francis Bashyam (Ballari), Rudresh S. (Kalaburagi), N.B. Patil (Kalaburagi), Yeshwanth Harasur (Kalaburagi), and Nagabai B. Bulla (Kalaburagi) will be the members.

The names of Basavalinga Pattaddevaru from Bidar, Huvinabavi B.L. from Kalaburagi, Jayanna from Raichur, Shanthanaik, and H.D. Prashanth, recommended by the KKRDB chairman, were dropped in the final list.

The order noted that the committee will work under the KKRDB and give its suggestions and recommendations to the board every month on implementing the Akshara Avishkara programme and other issues for improving the quality of education in the region.

The KKRDB had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Gururaj Karajagi last year. Many individuals and civil society groups had opposed the committee being headed by Mr. Karajagi. The developments appeared to have paved the way for forming a new committee.
