CBI arrests three, including Defence Accounts official, on graft charge

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Senior Auditor in the Office of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) under the Defence Ministry and two private persons on graft charge.

The accused persons have been identified as Deep Narayan Yadav, Senior Auditor in the PCDA Office; Akash Kapoor (defence supplier), owner of Akash Polytechnic Private Limited; and Dinesh, an employee of Mr. Kapoor.

The CBI registered the case on February 7 against the defence supplier and the public servant. It was alleged that the official had demanded ₹10 lakh from another defence supplier (the complainant) for his already cleared bills and also threatened to obstruct the payment of further bills of that supplier.

Following negotiations, Mr. Yadav allegedly agreed to accept ₹8 lakh as the first installment and directed the complainant to pay the amount to Mr. Kapoor.

Acting on the inputs, the CBI laid a trap and caught Mr. Kapoor’s employee “red handed” while demanding and accepting the first instalment from the complainant. Later, Mr. Kapoor and Mr. Yadav were also apprehended, the agency said.
