Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hailed the Union Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as historic for the state. Sarma specifically praised the announcement of a 12.7 lakh MT urea plant in Namrup, a long-standing demand of the people of Assam.
In a statement on social media, the Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction, stating that the urea plant, along with the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, would be a game-changer for the entire North East. He emphasized that the new urea facility would not only ensure self-sufficiency in fertiliser production but also optimize the region’s natural gas resources.
Sarma extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Sitharaman for prioritizing Assam’s development in the budget.
The Union Budget 2025 also introduced significant tax reforms, including income tax exemption for individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh and a revised tax structure to benefit the middle class. Furthermore, the budget proposed an increase in the tax deduction limit for senior citizens to Rs 1 lakh and an extension of the deadline for filing updated tax returns to four years.
