Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her roles in Blake Lively starrer Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 39. According to ABC News, the actress was found dead on February 26 in a New York City apartment near Columbus Circle. The New York Post reports that police sources have confirmed her death is not being investigated as suspicious.
Trachtenberg rose to fame as Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl and Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She began her acting career in commercials before landing roles in Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete and ABC’s All My Children.
Her breakthrough role came in 1996 when she starred as the titular character in Harriet the Spy. In the 2000s, she appeared in several notable films, including the teen comedy Eurotrip (2004), which popularized the song “Scotty Doesn’t Know”, and the Disney drama Ice Princess (2005), where she played a high school figure skater.
Trachtenberg’s last credited role was in 2023, when she reprised Georgina Sparks in HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot.
In the past year, the actress had sparked concern among fans due to a noticeable change in her appearance. Some speculated about her health, but Trachtenberg strongly dismissed the rumors. She responded to criticism online, writing, “Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems. Why do you have to hate? Get a calendar.”
In another Instagram post, she addressed plastic surgery speculations, saying, “I have never had plastic surgery. I am happy and healthy. Check yourself, haters.”
Trachtenberg’s final Instagram post, shared just a week before her death, was a throwback photo where she expressed wanting to “look like naughty #Tinkerbell.”
Her sudden passing has left fans and the entertainment industry in shock. No cause of death has been disclosed.
