The main goal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is “to serve the people, not just gain power”, and this commitment was reflected in “hard work for the welfare of citizens”, which had resulted in the party “returning to power repeatedly with support from the people”, BJP national president and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said at at a public rally in Agartala on Sunday (March 9, 2025).

The rally was organised to mark the completion of the second year of the incumbent BJP-led government in Tripura. Mr. Nadda highlighted the party’s accomplishments during its previous term in government, and thanked the electorate of the State for their support in electing BJP candidates to Parliament during the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said that the BJP’s dedication to the marginalised would keep the party in power, while criticising the Opposition for not contributing to public welfare. During his speech, Mr. Nadda highlighted positive changes in Tripura, including a 20% drop in crime rate, and improvements in governance through digitisation.
He said that the BJP government was focused on the poor and disadvantaged, in contrast to the previous Left government, which he accused of fostering “violence and corruption”. Mr. Nadda also announced two new State schemes for Tripura — the ‘Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana’ to provide bonds to help support girls born in below poverty line (BPL) families, and the ‘Chief Minister Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana’ of free scooters to top female students.
Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the people of Tripura had moved away from the past Left government’s “oppressive culture”. He criticised past governments for achieving little beyond “creating a culture of deprivation”, and said that the BJP would continue its “transparent work for the public good”.
Former CM and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Ministers, and senior party leaders were present at the rally.
